Case Study: Designing the Beitelzoo Experience

About the Project

Beitel Zoo (also known as Ephraim Farm) is a long-standing children's zoo and educational sanctuary located in Israel. Their original website (beitelzoo.com) was built with basic structure and limited responsiveness, primarily serving as a simple info hub.

However, as the zoo's activities expanded — including community events, educational programs, animal sponsorships, and farm tours — the old platform no longer reflected the warmth, mission, or modern needs of the organization.

Our team was tasked with a full redesign, both visually and structurally, to deliver a modern, engaging, and emotionally resonant website that could support donations, storytelling, and visitor interaction.

Redesign the visual identity to reflect the natural, playful, and family-friendly vibe of Beitel Zoo, while still comemorating its history.
Create a fully responsive site that's accessible to a wide age group (kids, parents, teachers, donors).
Preserve the existing site structure and multilingual content, but update it for clarity and usability.
Implement donation functionality and make "Calls to Action" (like visiting, volunteering, and sponsoring animals) more intuitive.
Support media storytelling through a flexible content system with photos, videos, and blog updates.

Steps of the Project

The project consisted of several milestones and phases. Each stage was meticulously planned to actively collaborate with the client and integrate their valuable input, ensuring maximum client satisfaction and delivering a solution that truly meets their vision for the project.

Content Inventory

Every visual and written element has been crafted to reflect the spiritual depth and heritage of the Jacob Sheep with dignity and symbolism.
UX Planning & Wireframing
- Designed a new wireframe emphasizing hierarchy: mission → animals → visit → support;
- Simplified menus and improved accessibility with larger buttons and text for younger and older audiences;
- Built flows for donations, animal sponsorships, and blog/news updates.
Development
- Clean semantic HTML/CSS with animation and transitions for interactivity;
- CMS integration for easy content management (support for multiple admins);
- Multilingual functionality preserved (Hebrew + English, RTL support);
- Donation flow connected to existing or new payment infrastructure (TBD).
Testing & Optimization
- Accessibility tested (WCAG AA level), including keyboard navigation and color contrast;
- Performance optimized for both desktop and mobile;
- Responsive behavior reviewed on phones and tablets used by the target visitor demographic.

Design concept

We created a minimalistic and user-friendly design, with stunning, sentimental visual imagery and content to foster a deep connection between the viewer and the rich history of the Beitelzoo.

Strategically integrated e-commerce sections were then seamlessly incorporated to showcase shofars available for purchase.
